Every great project starts with people who care about getting it right.

About Our Studio

Over the years, we’ve learned that good work comes from care, curiosity, and a bit of healthy overthinking.

We’re a team of architects, craftsmen, and creatives who like to stay hands-on—still sketching, building, and arguing about the right shade of white. The details matter to us because we know that they add up to something meaningful.

At BLOK, we take our work seriously—but not ourselves. We believe good design starts with listening, moves through collaboration, and ends with something that feels honest, useful, and built to last. We obsess over the small stuff so you don’t have to.

If that sounds like your kind of team, you’re in the right place.

Jacob Zikmund

Architect & Partner

Jacob helps lead design at BLOK, bringing equal parts curiosity and calm to every project. He believes architecture should feel effortless—but knows how much care it takes to get there.

Raised in a small North Dakota farming town, he learned the value of craft and endurance early. Those roots shaped his approach to design: simple, intentional, and quietly ambitious. Licensed in Minnesota and North Dakota, he works closely with clients and collaborators to turn ideas into lasting spaces.

Jacob’s focus lies in connecting story, place, and purpose—distilling complex ideas into clear, human architecture. His work blends Nordic restraint with a love for light, material, and the small details that make a space sing.

Favorite quote: “Be curious, not judgmental.”

Misattributed to Walt Whitman, quoted by Ted Lasso, and now unofficially adopted by us.

David Booth

Architect & Partner

David co-leads design at BLOK with a steady hand and a dry sense of humor. He’s the one you want in the room when the decisions get big—and the deadlines get bigger.

With over a decade in community-based architecture, he’s worked across civic and educational projects where collaboration and clarity are everything. His hands-on background in carpentry and fabrication gives him a rare fluency in construction details and a deep respect for how buildings actually come together.

David’s technical skill shines in his ability to translate design intent into highly detailed 3D models, coordinating structure, systems, and craft into a seamless whole. His goal: make buildings that function beautifully, feel timeless, and genuinely serve the people who use them.

Favorite quote: “The road to success is always under construction.” – Arnold Palmer.

He probably meant golf, but it works just as well for architecture.

Jake Williams

Creative Director

Jake leads brand and visualization at BLOK, making sure the work not only looks right—but feels right. He brings design, storytelling, and a bit of mischief to everything the studio puts into the world.

With over a decade in architectural visualization, he’s shaped how ideas are seen and understood, blending art direction, technology, and photography to tell stories that resonate. That same mindset guides how BLOK presents itself—from the rebrand to the website and everything in between.

Jake’s focus is clarity: visuals that make the work approachable without losing depth. He oversees our renderings, videos, and photography, ensuring every image carries the same care as the architecture behind it.

"You do not rise to the level of your goals. You fall to the level of your systems." — James Clear

He’s spent a decade making sure those systems have better file names than final_final_v7.

Brynn Wilson

Communications Coordinator

Brynn makes sure BLOK sounds like BLOK—clear, approachable, and (mostly) spell-checked.

With a background in marketing for the trades, she knows how to bridge the gap between technical jargon and plain language. That mix of strategy and storytelling keeps the studio’s communications grounded, human, and effective.

Brynn handles everything from SEO and campaigns to copy and content planning—building visibility without the fluff. She likes her marketing like she likes her coffee: bold, a little gritty, and capable of keeping people up at night.

Favorite quote: “I didn’t have time to write a short letter, so I wrote a long one instead.” – Mark Twain

Still the truest thing ever said about writing.

Caroline Nelson

Student Architect

Caroline is a Student Architectural Intern at BLOK and a fourth-year at Kansas State University. She brings curiosity, focus, and a growing obsession with the details that make good design work.

Her recent internship with a major design firm gave her hands-on experience in technical drawing, code research, and project coordination. She’s quick to learn and even quicker to ask thoughtful questions.

At BLOK, she’s honing her craft through modeling, documentation, and concept development—building the foundation for a career focused on design that feels as good as it looks.

Favorite quote: “Architecture should speak of its time and place, but yearn for timelessness.” – Frank Gehry

So far, her time is Kansas, her place is studio, and she’s right on track.
